Malicious Badmouth

It recently occurred an internet tam tam about mobiles and operators resposible of spreading malware and trojan using mobile.

Common technofan blogs titled their articles “The Android virus!” and “Vodafone spreads worms and malicious code” about the Mariposa problem in Spain.

Of course, facts are quite different.  It seems that some SD card distributed within some mobile package were actually infected by a botnet.

Thus, when connecting the mobile to the PC, if the device contains the infected SD card, the botnet passes from the card to the PC.

As a result, the mobile and the fact it is an Android phone is just by accident and it is not a significant fact.

Both the Android platform, the HTC mobile and the operator (Vodafone) are actually irrelevant.

The real news should have mentioned Windows (not even quoted in most articles).

Of course it has been pointed out how efficient has been the plethora of PC antivirus in saving the world from the new ” curse” coming from mobiles.

Will the antivirus “angels” save the mobile “evil”?

Come on….

That ringing stuff in my pocket…

http://communities-dominate.blogs.com/brands/2010/02/phone-market-shares-for-year-of-2009-and-last-quarter-2009.html

Of course there is a Winner (with W in capital) and is Apple, no doubt. Just one product. A clear, fantastic working solution. What I cannot stand is the (false) surprise about the fact there are several losers.

It is not sufficient to improve a (even good) open platform to compete with Apple, dear googlers.

We will see this year who (between Android and upcoming new Windows Mobile) will be able to crunch the Smart”-Mail”-phones share of RIM.

And operators choiches will also determine other changes.

It’s not the funny application that will take you to number one.

It’s the internet. Mail, facebook…navigator…and the upcoming new idea everybody is waiting for… it doesn’t matter what OS you will use to make it running… what’s important is to have a cheap flat data tariff and a cool enough brick able to launch them….

The market will be divided between internet and non-internet phones.

And to me just a very small slice of Symbian devices can be considered  Internet phones…

Mobile Podcasting: my personal evaluation

A good excuse I used to explain why I spent some money on a iPod has been the fact that I would have listened to the iTunes podcast
on mobile technologies and consulting also while having a shower.
I am sharing here my personal evaluation for some of them, and I would appreciate your opinion too.
I would use “diamonds”, from 1 to 5, in order  to evaluate how much these could be useful for a telco consultant.

Engadget Mobile (♦ ♦)
It’s not technology. It’s so much talking and poor explaining. It like a magazine for geeks willing to buy, rather then being informed.
But it’s complete. It covers all the markets. It confirms impressions and groups several blogs evaluations.
The Blog version is much better to get news. They seems to have kind of obsession vs Palm Pre.
Good to listen while driving or having a haircut…

Mobility Today Podcast (♦)
Intro jingle, then absolutely vacuum. It seems they record this while having beers or something.

Mobile Tech Addicts (♦)
Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery loooooooooooong intro jingle.
Then visionary collection of “I guess, I think, I guess, I wish, IMHO…etc...”

WMExperts Podcast (♦ ♦)
If they are able to deliver a 1 hour podcast every single week NOW,then think about what will occur once something will really happen with WM.

AndroidGuys Blog Talk Radio Free (♦)
Cannot imagine something more distant to Android.

iPhone Application Programming (Standford University) (♦ ♦ ♦ ♦  ….but it’s a video course on iPhone programming, not a mobile technology survey podcast!)

How difficult is improving: Google Square it vs. Microsoft Bing

braccio_di_ferro

I already wrote about the importance of search tools and news sniffers for consultants living on the edge of technology.

Two bigs are going to fight with their brand new upcoming tools: Google Square it and Microsoft Bing.

Google Square it is an experimental version of a search tool able to organize the search outcome as a spreadsheet collection, somehow supposed to be more effective. Users can customize the columns of the spreadsheet that reflects key words or categories of the search.

Microsoft Bing looks like a “google like” evolution (?) of microsoft search engine.

I’ve used Google to find out Bing url, needless to say.
